Friends of Mavisbank - NEWS

On Tuesday 16th December 2003 The Edinburgh Green Belt Trust held a Community Workshop to which over 50 local groups and organisations and nine local resident representatives were invited.  Turnout was relatively low with some 20 people in all.  The workshop was well run by a firm of professional facilitators and we await the results of their evaluation.  From the verbal reports given by each group at the end of the session it was clear that, with one or two exceptions, all supported the preservation of the building shell but were urging a low-key approach with minimal disturbance to the land and no human habitation/use of the building.

At the above workshop we were promised that we would be sent the facilitators' evaluation.  This has still not been issued and we have been told that it is now to be combined with "other" consultations including schools and street surveys.  It is clear that the Mavisbank Trust did not like the results from local people and organisations who know and care for Mavisbank, and so are determined to widen the process until they find the results they want.  We were offered a restricted look at the results of the above but would have had to agree not to publicly comment on them or publish extracts.  We declined this offer and await the results when they are openly released.  We will wish to know what questions were asked and if participants were given any alternatives proposals to compare.
